Olympic Games Competition

A proposal for an Information Pavilion to be built for the 2012 Olympic Games in London responds to the surrounding contexts—Trafalgar Square, urban London, and the Games themselves—while also capturing the drama of the ongoing Olympics. Positioned near the column, the pavilion allows easy access for visitors, while integrating seamlessly into the existing pedestrian circulation.

The design harnesses the cinematographic qualities of the square by orienting a film screen parallel to the Square’s pre-existing stairs, thereby utilizing them as a seating area for viewing activities and events. The inclusion of colorful lighting along the façade creates a dramatic effect that beckons onlookers through the night. The screen is integrated into the pavilion design to add further flexibility. Inside, all services are concentrated together for easy maintenance, cleaning, and connections.
